A crib rail cover does two jobs at once: it protects your crib's top rail from teething marks, and it brings soft, heirloom style to the nursery. Ours are cut and sewn one at a time in our Alabama studio from 100% washed cotton, softly filled with quilt batting for fullness and structure, and finished with fabric ties. What a crib rail cover does:

• Protects the rail finish from teething marks — especially worth it on a convertible crib, where that rail becomes a footboard later
• Puts soft washed cotton between your baby and a finished wood rail
• Rests over the top rail only — it does not go inside the crib, and does not cover the sides, slats, or ends
• Coordinates with your crib skirt, bows, and bedding in matching fabric

Rail covers vs. crib bumpers: they are not the same thing. Padded bumpers lined the inside of the crib and are no longer recommended. A rail cover sits on the outside, over the top rail, where your baby chews.
