Fabric & Materials

Made from 100% Washed Cotton
The Heart of Every Heirloom

Soft, breathable, and lovingly pre-washed before it ever meets your nursery. Every piece of High Cotton Textile bedding is crafted from premium 100% cotton — chosen for its safety, its softness, and its ability to be passed down for generations.

Why We Only Use 100% Cotton

Cotton is one of the safest, most breathable fabrics you can choose for your baby's crib. It's gentle against delicate skin, naturally temperature-regulating, and free from the synthetic fibers and harsh finishes found in many mass-produced bedding sets.

But not all cotton is created equal — and not all cotton is treated the same way before it's sewn. That's where we do things a little differently.

What Makes Our Cotton Different

Every yard of fabric that comes through our Alabama studio is pre-washed and pre-dried before we cut a single piece. We call it our washed cotton process — and it's one of the things our customers love most.

🌿

Pre-Shrunk for You

We wash and dry all of our fabrics before cutting and sewing, so your bedding won't shrink the first time you wash it at home. What you order is what you keep.

🤍

Softer From the Start

Brand-new 100% cotton can feel stiff and starchy — not what you want against a baby's skin. Our pre-washing process breaks the fabric in gently, so every piece arrives soft, cozy, and ready to love.

🏡

The Farmhouse Look

That relaxed, lived-in texture our customers adore? That's the washed cotton at work. It gives every piece a soft, slightly textured, heirloom feel — never crisp or factory-new.

Pre-shrinking matters most on made-to-order pieces, where fit is cut to a measurement rather than pulled off a shelf. Our Crib Fit Guide covers the sizing side — drop lengths, rail cover drape, and mini crib dimensions.

Crisp or Cozy — The Choice Is Yours

One of the things we love about 100% washed cotton is how versatile it is. Most of our customers fall in love with the relaxed farmhouse look it has straight out of the package — soft, slightly wrinkled, and full of character.

But if you prefer a more polished, crisp aesthetic for your nursery, our cotton takes beautifully to an iron and steamer. Either way, it's the same heirloom-quality fabric — styled to suit your nursery.

See the Color in Your Own Nursery Light

Washed cotton reads differently on a screen than it does on a wall. A sage that looks cool and grey on a phone can read warm and soft next to your paint color, and a blush can shift noticeably between morning and lamplight.

That's why we sell fabric swatches of every shade we carry. They're the single best way to order a made-to-order piece with confidence — hold the swatch against your paint chip, your rug, your crib, and your window light before you commit to a full set.

If you're matching to a nursery you've already started, order two or three shades and compare. Most families are surprised by which one wins.

Caring for Your Heirloom Bedding

With a little love, your High Cotton Textile bedding is made to last for years — and even be passed down to little ones to come. Here's how to keep every piece looking its best.

Washing

  • Machine wash cold, on a gentle cycle
  • Wash separately from other items
  • Skip the bleach and fabric softeners — they can damage natural cotton fibers over time

Drying

  • Tumble dry on medium heat, separately
  • A quick toss in the dryer is the easiest way to "fluff" out wrinkles between uses

Ironing (Optional)

  • 100% cotton wrinkles easily — that's part of its charm — but it irons beautifully
  • Use a medium heat setting
  • Avoid starch sprays, which can damage the fabric over time
  • A handheld steamer also works wonderfully

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our fabric, before it lands in your nursery.

Will my bedding shrink when I wash it?
Because we pre-wash and pre-dry every yard of fabric before cutting, shrinkage is minimal. You can wash and dry your bedding at home with confidence.
Is your cotton safe for babies?
Yes. We use 100% cotton from trusted American mills — a naturally breathable, gentle fabric that's a popular choice for baby bedding. We never use synthetic blends, flame-retardant chemical treatments, or fabric finishes that could irritate sensitive skin. Our Safe Sleep Guide covers what belongs in the crib itself.
How do I know a color will match my nursery?
Order fabric swatches first. Screens shift color noticeably, and a swatch held against your paint and your window light is the only reliable test. If you're matching a specific paint chip or another brand's bedding, send us a photo and we'll tell you which of our shades is closest.
Why does my bedding look a little wrinkled when it arrives?
That's the washed cotton at work — and it's intentional! The soft, lived-in texture is what gives our bedding its signature heirloom, farmhouse-style look. If you prefer a crisper finish, a quick iron or steam will give you that polished look instantly.
How long will my bedding last?
With proper care, our bedding is made to last for years — many of our customers pass pieces down to younger siblings and even the next generation. 100% cotton, sewn by hand, is built to endure.
Can I tumble dry on high?
We recommend medium heat to protect the integrity of the fabric and stitching. High heat over time can cause natural fibers to break down faster.
Do you use any chemical treatments or finishes?
No. Our cotton is washed, dried, cut, and sewn — nothing more. What you see and feel is pure, soft, 100% cotton.
Can I buy your fabric by the yard?
Yes. We sell our cotton by the yard, cut to order, in the same shades we sew with. It's 44" wide and arrives pre-washed, the same as everything else that leaves our studio.
How wide is your fabric?
44". That width is what lets a crib rail cover drape a full 20" down each side of the rail rather than sitting on top of the wood as a thin strip — more on that in our Crib Fit Guide.
